Okay, so the entire world is full of girls talking about how much they love makeup and how many makeup products they have and how they keep doing their hauls and stuff....Well, if you ask me, there's always going to be someone who has tons of more makeup than you, but there's also going to be lots of people who have much less makeup than you do!
With the wedding and festive season on and New Year just round the corner, there's already a lot of money that's being spent on dresses and travel and food and makeup and this and that and what not! I'm not saying that we shouldn't spend on makeup, but what I am simply saying is that there are some smart ways that we can use to save some money on what we spend on buying makeup.
Here are a few tricks that can help you save some money on makeup, while using makeup!
1. Multiple use product:
The lipstick is a great makeup product when it comes to multi-tasking. You don't really need to own a lipstick, blush and eye shadow in the same colour. Simply use your lipstick on your lips and also use it to dab on the cheeks and eyelids to make a matching blush and eyeshadow effect.
2. Lip Pencils
You don't really need lip pencils in all colours. Use a lilac or red pencil and use it to wear with pinks, reds, purples, lilacs and even browns! Just remember to put a bit of colour on the pencil outline if its of a different colour, so that it merges with the lipstick colour. Also, it is absolutely fine to go for local brands when it comes to lip pencils, as there is not really much difference in the quality, while the pricing is vastly different! And also, most of the time, the manufacturers for the pencils are the same, before they are taken over by the brand.
3. Face Highlighter
This is one product you can easily do away with. If you absolutely want to highlight your face using a product, you can always check in your eyeshadow palette and find a lighter shade that will do the job just perfect! Go for the silvers and the whites and sometimes even the beige colours. The idea is to find the right shade that will give the highlight effect on your skin tone. This will help you save on mega bucks while still having those gorgeous highlights!
The thing with mascara is that you can always find the perfect dupe to the very expensive brand that you may be using or love. Most good mascaras have a similar formula - it's the wand that makes the difference! So if you have found the mascara with the perfect wand, you can always keep the tube with you. Find a lesser expensive version and each time you apply mascara, open the empty tube, take out the wand and dip it in the mascara and apply! You will notice similar results.
5. Lip Balm
We all want smooth and hydrated lips but that doesn't mean you need to spend those crazy bucks on lip balms that are available out there! Lots of less expensive lip balms are actually much better than the highly expensive or big branded ones. If you suffer from excessively dry lips, you can also apply ghee (clarified butter) or malaai (milk cream) on your lips and keep them on for a while.
6. Foundation/BB/CC Cream
Who wears foundation everyday? Almost no one. With the arrival of the BB cream, followed by the CC cream and now the DD cream, there's enough chance we may go all the way till a ZZ cream and begin with a new pattern all over again. Not only are these hideously expensive, they are not really worth all the money and the hype (unless you believe they are, in that case I don't think this post can work for you.) A great way to make sure you don't end up spending a fortune on your foundation/BB/CC creams is to take a bit of your foundation and mix it with your favourite moisturiser or face cream to get the shade you want. This way you will still have your foundation handy, while on days when you don't need a heavy coverage, you can always wear this tinted moisturiser. I created my own tinted moisturiser at home and you can read about it here.
These were the main makeup products where we tend to spend fortunes! These are quite simple ways to save money, yet get the best out of your makeup. Hope it works for you :-)
Have a great year ahead....
