Asian Paints Great Ways to Create a Beautiful Home

If you are like me, you will probably be bowled over by this image. I am specifically talking about the various hues here, that come together so perfectly in this shot above.

For me, one of the first things that draws my attention is the colour, the hue, the shade. I can absolutely not be interested in something, but if it has the right shade and colour, I will give it a look, and if it is appealing enough, will get interested soon enough.

So it is no surprise that for me, my home needs to have some good element of colour in it. And no, I am not talking of just the loud painted walls (though those too can look pretty amazing in certain environments), but I am talking more of the featured, the highlighted, and the nook kind of walls that are made to come alive with colours.

This is a picture of my previous bedroom. I was looking at a different colour to create the textured wall. While we saw various combinations and ideas, there was this one look that was already firmly spaced in mind, and I was sure I would get it done, whether someone told me it would look good or no. So I forced the painters to actually mix up these shades just for me the way I wanted, and once the look was complete, they confessed that it was indeed looking pretty. This wall, to this day, remains one of my most favourite walls ever.

The effect it had on the overall look of our bedroom was immense. It immediately transformed the room from something regular and plain to outright wow!

Colours can play a major role in bringing life to a room. And you need to understand the areas in your wall that will show off that colour or texture best.

A great way to do up the house, I feel, is by choosing the right mix of paints and textures. Creating some coloured walls, textures and styles can add that much extra amount of style and visual delight to a room.

If going all out with colours the first time sounds a little daunting, you can always try out something like this. Try out a shade that is not so bold, but yet has the power to instantly draw the eye to it. Make sure you keep the surroundings free from too many loud or contrasting colours.

Using an elegant colour in subtle understated tones is a great way to up the class of your home, yet keep it soft. While using colours like gold and rust, the key is to keep it restrained to a particular area. This also becomes the feature area, or the most used area of the room. In this case it is the sitting area, as the wall is done up in the living room.

With so many ideas to work on, I am already readying up to do up my new home. It's a new year, and you don't really need much reasons to give your home a new look, right?

If you too are thinking about giving your home a new look, here are a few points you can keep in mind:
  • Select the area in your room that will have the most action (say sitting area in living room.) Now select a wall in that area to make it your feature wall
  • If this is the first time you are using bold colours for your home and are not comfortable with a loud colour to begin with, choose some subtle shades with slight texture in them - this will help you get a feel of the 'new' look while not making it overbearing (you can always switch to darker or bolder colours when you redo your home again in the future)
  • Use a bright colour in the entryway, as entrances are mostly dark. This will give your home a bright and lively look, especially as visitors enter. Place some lovely lamps/lights that will brighten up the space.
  • If you have a corner space that is not being used, you can add a dash of colour to bring it to life and brighten up your room.
  • When using a bold colour on the walls, make sure you keep the bold colour to one wall and keep the rest of the walls as light as possible. This will help feature that wall.
  • Darker colours like dark browns, chocolates, blacks, dark olive greens and dark purples make the rooms appear smaller.
  • A mirror placed strategically opposite a featured wall can give the illusion of a bigger room
  • Placing lights/lamps/candles in front of a mirror can also create the illusion of a bigger room
  • Don't place too many objects on your feature wall, as it will take away the look you created with the colours.
